Dining & Entertainment
Ask a resident of St. Maarten where to eat and he will be hard put to tell you. In fact, you could eat out every night for over 5 months and never repeat a restaurant. One thing is for sure: on no other 37 square miles in the world can you find such gastronomic diversity. Cuisine ranges from zesty creole dishes to the exquisite delicate balance of a multi-coursed French menu.

Boathouse Restaurant & Bar Tel: 45409 |
Boathouse Restaurant & Bar - Reservations, telephone 45409.
Located on Airport Road at Simpson Bay about 1,000 feet from the entrance to
Pelican Island Resort. The decor is nautical with life preservers on the walls and
wood railings separating different levels of the dining area, which overlooks a
large circular bar two steps down in a building shaped like a boathouse. The walls
are mostly French doors that allow warm breezes in to embrace you, while you
dine and enjoy the beautiful views of the bay, sailboats and mountains. The food
is very good and the staff is courteous and attentive. Savor breakfast on the
outdoor terrace or the Calamari Platter, batter dipped deep fried with salad, baked
potato or French fries for dinner.

Le Perroquet Restaurant Tel: 54339 |
Located on Airport road about 1,500 feet from the airport. Le Perroquet is in
a one story building with two dining rooms, a cozy entrance foyer, restrooms, a
service bar and comfortably seats about sixty guests. The dining rooms have
wood railings with louvered shutters in place of walls, cathedral ceilings with
exposed beams and large fans. The shutters are usually open to let in the
moonlight reflecting off Simpson Bay . The decor is uniquely parrot (Le
Perroquet) motif; the table settings are nicely arranged and the staff is top notch.
But, the best is yet to come! Le Perroquet has some of the finest meals and exotic
dishes of any restaurant on the island. When you go, be ready to eat something
special; such as ostrich fillet, alligator in a white wine cream sauce, rainbow trout
from the rivers of France, venison and much more, excellently prepared, cooked
and served. And now, they have added an open air terrace overlooking the lagoon
where you can enjoy your coffee and dessert.

Turtle Pier Restaurant & Bar Tel: 52562 |
A unique restaurant with its own pier and about a dozen slips on Simpson Bay
Lagoon located on the Airport Road. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner or
enjoy drinks at the bar or on the terrace overlooking the beautiful lagoon. In the
evenings, they have live music on the water. The burgers and ribs are excellent
and "Monica's smile" as she serves breakfast will brighten your day. To quote a
dear friend: "The Mahi-Mahi for dinner was the best anywhere!" The kids will
love it, too! Walking in to the grounds, you pass through a mini-zoo with
monkeys, parrots, roosters, etc. Recently renovated and expanded, the restaurant
sits atop the water and they plan to rebuild a water pen housing large turtles, a
shark and other sea life. Take home a Turtle Mug and have a good time!

Located in a colorful 150 year old traditional Antillian wood house on Front Street

French side dishes all lovingly prepared. The interior is equally colorful and
decorative with a chandelier of grapes hanging from the ceiling, fruits, vegetables
& wine racks hanging from the walls, French scenes painted on the walls and
money from 50+ countries on the wall behind the bar. A pleasant atmosphere

La Samanna Tel: 87-51-22 |
The Restaurant offers an extensive menu of fine selections for both lunch and
dinner. The cuisine is French and Caribbean with a touch of American and
includes such tasties as grilled local red snapper with Creole sauce for lunch. By
the way, dinner is served by candlelight on the dining terrace which overlooks the
sea and is an experience that must be savored. Many restaurants on the island
have fine wine lists, but The Restaurant has a wine cellar of over 20, 000 bottles
with some great choices! Yes , La Samanna is my favorite establishment on St.
Maarten/St. Martin. One reason is that it conveys an atmosphere unlike anywhere
else on the island. Located on a cliff, it overlooks Long Bay. Once you have
visited La Samanna, you will never forge t it!

Jean Dupont Tel: 87-71-13 |
The sister restaurant to Le Santal, both owned and operated by Jean Dupont and
family; and like its big sister, the pleasurable eatery has quickly gained an excellent
reputation and a following all its own. A lovely open walled building that sits three
s teps up from the promenade and has a completely unobstructed view of the
Marina Port La Royale in Marigot. This fine establishment is tough to beat for
lunch, dinner, etc. and has become one of the best bargains on the island. It is one
of the best rest aurants on the marina. Menu samples: Filet Mignon, Fish Soup, a
Thai selection or Hamburger are nicely washed down with a bottle of house wine
(a light Burgundy ). The food is excellent, the staff and service are excellent, the
view is excellent, the am biance is excellent. I guess by now, you've realized that
I like the place.

California Restaurant Tel: 87.55.57 |
Located on "Restaurant Row" in Grand Case, this popular restaurant enjoys its

Whether you choose a leisurely lunch of their enticing pizzas, a dinner of Lobster

Case and the beautiful island of Anguilla across the sea, California is a lovely
restaurant with a friendl y staff and a great place to lounge around for an

Le Santal Tel: 87-53-48 or 87-78-19 |
The accolades have been pouring in for almost twenty years; Food and Wine,
Bon Appetit, Gourmet Magazine, Paris-Match, Fielding's Guide, Glamour
Magazine, the New York Times, Fodor's Caribbean and many more have all had
positive things to sat about Le Santal. It had been a winner for years. The cuisine,
the service, the food presentation, the ambiance, the valet parking, the beauty of
the decor, the view overlooking the sea, the warm happy feeling you have when
you leave, all of these things are too difficult for the competition to deal with and
are some of the intangibles that continue to make this outstanding restaurant
"tops" not only in St. Maarten/St. Martin , but possibly the entire Caribbean.
Advice: order one soufflé for two people, it is big enough to be a meal by itself
and scrumptious! Yes, Le Santal is very expensive, but you will have created a
memory.

Paradise Cafe Tel: 52842 |
This friendly gathering place is located on the hill above Casino Royale and within easy walking
distance from the Maho Hotel Resort & Plaza. It has a following of old friends from the cruise
ships who have patronized the Paradise Cafe for many years. A quaint restaurant offering open air
poolside dining with a great bar, almost no walls and major sporting events via satellite on a wide
screen TV. The varied menu offers Mesquite Bar B. Q., a smoke room where they do superb
chicken and fish dishes, grea t salads, tasty pastas and an excellent Prime Rib all at affordable
prices. Enjoy Yourselves!
|
Ristorante Laguna Tel: 52025 |
After walking into the lobby, you descend several stairs into a large dining room with a high ceiling,
whitewashed walls and tables smartly separated by planters of trees and exotic shrubs with a view
of Simpson Bay Lagoon. Allow yourself to be pampered with fine regional Italian cooking,
exceptionally creamy Fettucini Alfredo, delicious prime US meats, fresh fish, and lobsters with
seasoning and ingredients direct from Italy. Be prepared for a pleasurable experience and a
memorable evening!

Pelican Reef Steak & Seafood House Tel: 42616 |
This is a great restaurant with incredible gourmet dishes, the #1 Wine Cellar on the
island and it is the only restaurant to have received the Wine Spectator "Award of
Excellence." Located on the Waterfront Plaza at the Pelican Resort, this stunning dining
room in mahogany with its glass wall offers dramatic views of Simpson Bay, sensational
sunsets and a panorama of evening lights from Maho to the airport. I applaud it's
superbly crafted and extensive menu including marvelous "Signature Dishes." Try El
Gaucho, a chateaubriand of grass fed, very lean, prime beef from Argentina; the Baked,
Stuffed, Caribbean Lobster from the local fishing fleet, after steaming, the meat is
removed, cut up to fork size, blended with savory herbs and gently baked to perfection or
try their other Epicurean delights.

Lady Mary The Starlight Dinner Cruise |
Located at the Re/Max Dock on the Airport Road. Dine and Dance aboard
this 90 foot yacht as it cruises around the calm waters of Simpson Bay
Lagoon. Enjoy a Starlight Dinner Cruise nightly from 7 to 10 PM, a Sunset
Cruise from 5 to 7 PM or the Cham pagne Brunch from 12 Noon to 3 PM.
My wife and I enjoyed the dinner cruise which was served by uniform staff
members and included appetizers of crab on cucumber and plantains
wrapped in bacon, entrees of roasted coconut chicken or red snapper with
rice, salad, bread pudding and coffee. There is also an open bar with name
brands including champagne. The music and the singer were terrific, the
evening view of villas and lighted yachts and sailboats was lovely and during
the day the scenery is beautiful. As they say, "It's a restaurant with 14 miles
of changing scenery!" A unique night out!

Surf Club South
|
This fun bar/restaurant has relocated to the Grand Case road to Orient
Beach at the intersection of Cul De Sac. New Jerseyites will appreciate the
Garden State Parkway & NJ signs, bikinis & "things" adorn the trees,
pictures of happy people, more tables, a swimming pool with a wall mural
now depicts the view from the old Surf Club South. Live Music six nights a
week, Bloody Marys & Mimosas free 11 AM - 2 PM Sundays.

The LOLOS
|
When you drive around the island, you will see local St. Maartenians/ St.
Martinians cooking at little barbecue stands. Usually the menu is grilled
chicken, ribs and fresh caught fish. The smell from the smoke will cause
your mouth to salivate. Stop by and enjoy it! Prices are reasonable and it's
worth a lunch visit!
