Fort-de-France has a reputation for being a Parisian shop window in the heart of the Caribbean, and quite rightly. Most of goods imported carry the label, "Made in France". The biggest French brand names sell their products in Martinique. You will also find goods which are the creation of local designers. From sportswear to the dressiest of clothes, you will find all the latest fashions here.
The main shopping area is concentrated along the side streets of Fort-de-France.
There, tourists will discover fashionable boutiques that sell Paris couture and French
Riviera resort wear, along with larger stores that specialize in luxury goods. The
biggest bargains are on French goods, including perfume, jewelry and designer
fashions. Prices on perfumes, for example, are most often half the U.S. price.
Among the many specialty items on Martinique are rum (both white and dark, aged
varieties), fruit-flavored liqueurs and a number of gourmet treats, including delicious
fruit jams, fruit sauces and exotic spices. Shoppers will also find shell and straw crafts,
colorful patchwork, tapestries, paintings and sculpture.
