Rental Cars
Though headquartered at various locations in Port-au-Prince and Pétionville, a number of car rental agencies
have an office across the street from the airport. A wide variety of vehicles (and prices) is generally available, ranging from sedans from US$50 to US$80 per day to four-wheel-drives from US$120 to US$165 per day. Hertz also rents a pickup truck at US$123 per day. In general all of the rental companies will require a cash deposit ranging from US$400 to US$1,200 depending
on the type of car you rent, unless you are using a credit card. American Express, VISA and MasterCard are
almost universally accepted.
You do not need to get a local driver's permit to drive in Haiti: your U.S., Canadian or European driver's licence
is fine. Driving is on the right.
Also, note that some of the car rental companies are willing to give a special rate if you are planning to rent a
vehicle for a week or longer. So it is adviseable to call and reserve your car (and agree on a rate) ahead of
time, and don't hesitate to ask for special deals.
