Sightseeing

In Bermuda you can get lost only in the beauty of the moment. Some beautiful sites that you should visit are:

Rock of Ages

Within Spiral Pond, Bermuda's largest nature reserve, are two unsolved mysteries. At the end of the winding trail to Spanish Rock there is a bronze plaque of the cryptic inscription: TF 1543. Many believe that the original was carved in stone by an early Portuguese "discoverer". Not far away, graceful longtails nest in the cliff face high above the surf. Deeply etched on the rock ledge is a "checker board" large enough to accomodate human sized chess pieces. How did it get there? Unconcerned by these questions are the herons, terns, ducks, a loving pair of flamingoes, and the many migratory and resident water fowl, that populate the pond and the untouched suttroundings. November to March are the best months for birders. A lovely walk. Always open.

Limestone Caves

Bermuda has one of the highest concentrations of limestone Caves in the world. Most of the cave-making activity began during the Pleistocene Ice Age. As early as 1623 the adventurer Capt. John Smith complained that he had encontered "vary strange, darke, and cumbersome caves". In Bermuda, nature's patient, relentless underground sculpting is a dream world for even casual "spelunkers". Deep in the majestic silence of the earth's interior, roam in caverns of great stalactites and stalagmites of Gothic grandeur, of delicacy and beauty. Our awesome underground has been the expiration for creative achievements as diverse sa Shakespreare's "Tempest" and Henson Associates "Fraggle Rock" muppets. Visit the Crystal Caves or Leamington Caves.
